Christiania Shipping wanted to take immediate action to reduce its CO2 emissions by building on its existing operational efficiency initiatives and vessel monitoring data.
The shipping company asked behaviour change service Signol to identify the immediate opportunities for fuel savings across its entire 18-vessel fleet, and ran a six-month trial in which Signol successfully encouraged crew members to increase fuel-saving activity, using behavioural science.
This emission reduction partnership has saved more than 250 metric tonnes of fuel, avoiding at least 790 metric tonnes of CO2, saving more than $150,000 from Christiania Shipping’s fuel bill and $48,000 from regulatory costs under the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS).
Christiania has since extended its work with Signol beyond the trial, entering a three year contract, and continues to see ongoing progress, achieving significant cost-savings, reducing emissions and receiving positive feedback from its crew.
